SIX-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy says he is "optimistic" after revealing he is battling cancer.
The former Great Britain track cyclist, 47, said he had hoped to keep his diagnosis private but that his "hand has been forced".
In a post on Instagram he said he was having treatment, including chemotherapy. But he stressed: "I currently feel fine." In his statement, Sir Chris, inset, added: "Last year I was diagnosed with cancer, which came as a huge shock, having had no symptoms up to that point.
"I'm currently receiving treatment including chemotherapy, thankfully which going is really well. I'd like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals for their amazing help and care.
"For the sake of my young family, I had hoped to keep this information private but regrettably our hand has been forced.
