Civil Service cull to slash Cabinet Office by a third

THE Cabinet Office will lose almost a third of its workers as Labour seeks to shrink the Civil Service, the Government announced yesterday.

Around 1,200 jobs will go through redundancies and leavers not being replaced, while 900 people will be transferred to other departments.

The 2,100 job cuts represent just under a third of the 6,500 “core staff” at the Cabinet Office, the strategic centre of the British state.

Cabinet Office minister Pat Mc-Fadden announced the brutal cull in his department, in the hope he sets an example to the rest of Whitehall.

A source said: “We are creating a leaner and more focused Cabinet Office that will...reshape the state and deliver our plan for change.
