BRITAIN is set to bask in temperatures well above 30C next week in the fourth heatwave of the summer.

- By Jan Disley

Forecasters say some southern areas could see up to 34C (93F), with the “peak of the heat” predicted on Tuesday. While beaches are likely to be packed out as daytrippers head to the coast, a yellow “heat health” alert has been issued for several regions from Monday lunchtime, with warnings of “significant impacts” on health and social care services.

The UK Health Security Agency said Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands, East of England, London, the South East and South West could be affected from noon on Monday until 6pm on Wednesday, with some regions staying hot for longer.

The tail end of Tropical Storm Dexter crossing the Atlantic from the US is drawing warm air up towards the UK.
