BRITAIN is lagging on assisted dying said an MP whose father took his own life while suffering from a terminal disease.

Labour's Paul Blomfield was among 11 Commons health committee members who ran a year-long inquiry into the issue.

His family has been personally affected by the cruel ban - almost 13 years ago, his dad Harry took his life in a garage aged 87 while dying of inoperable lung cancer.

Powerful testimony heard during the inquiry has only strengthened Mr Blomfield's belief that assisted dying must be legalised for terminally ill people.
