Anger at water giant's plans to dump waste in celebrated chalk stream

FEARGAL Sharkey has hit out at a firm's plans to pump wastewater into a cherished river.

The activist and ex-Undertones singer criticised Southern Water for its works in the Test in Hampshire one of only 200 chalk streams in the world.

Sharkey, 65, said: "It's a large section of the River Test used by salmon and trout as spawning grounds. Last month the Atlantic salmon was officially placed on the endangered species list. [It] appears Southern Water has known about this problem for decades and done frankly little or nothing."
