EIGHTEEN dogs and puppies have been seized from two properties in Merthyr Tydfil.

South Wales Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of animal neglect.

Officers from South Wales Police executed warrants across three addresses in the Ysgubor Newydd and Gurnos areas of Merthyr on April 8, and found 18 dogs in total all of which are now receiving care from the RSPCA. Sixteen of these dogs are said to be adults and two are puppies.

A 27-year-old man from the Merthyr area has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and failing to ensure animal welfare.
