DESPERATE RESIDENT SAYS SHE'S HAD TO TAKE THINGS INTO HER OWN HANDS

Mum is too scared to go into her kitchen as mice 'roam everywhere'

A CROYDON mum says she is too scared to go into her kitchen alone after discovering a mouse infestation in her council-owned flat.

She also claims Croydon Council has failed to provide a permanent fix to the problem despite repeated complaints.

Esther Dwemoh, a single mum to a young child with special needs, moved into the Croydon Council property last July after spending two years bidding for a two-bedroom home. But just a few months later, in October, she noticed signs of a serious mouse problem.

During a visit to her address on Queens Road in Croydon, Esther told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): “I just noticed a lot of movement in the kitchen.”

That was followed by evidence of mouse droppings around the kitchen. She suspected these were coming from a nest hidden behind the kitchen utilities.

Esther says she was never warned about any issues in the flat prior to moving in, despite claiming neighbours told her the previous tenant also dealt with rats and mice.

“So the council knew about this infestation but allowed us to move in without doing the proper work,” she said. She says she’s had to take matters into her own hands.
