Mids lose out in a final over away-day thriller

FOR the first time this season, Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian travelled to face Spencer, last year’s Men’s second XI Premier Division runners-up and lost out in a thriller.

Looking to build on last week's impressive batting display, captain Sam Williams won the toss on a bright, sunny morning and chose to bat first.

Openers Richard Piggin (12) and Abishek Sabesan (44) provided a solid start, confidently negotiating Spencer's new-ball attack. Piggin fell to a good delivery, but Sabesan kept the pressure on the bowlers before falling just short of a deserved half-century. Sam Williams and Jamie Collins then put together a crucial partnership in the middle overs.

However, a flurry of three quick wickets left the Mids at 162-6 and in need of a late surge on an excellent batting surface.
