'If there's VAR in the Scottish league then there should be VAR in the Championship'

FRANK Lampard will be delighted to hear that referee-turned-pundit Dermot Gallagher can foresee a scaled-back version of VAR being introduced to the Championship.

The Coventry City boss is an advocate of the controversial checking system after feeling his team were on the wrong side of a number of close-call decisions last season, and he has the backing of former Sky Blues striker Jay Bothroyd.

Bothroyd has become exasperated when he has reviewed decisions in the EFL this season for Sky Sports, and now he's suggested that officials should have the benefit of an adviser watching replays to make sure that major incidents were not missed - pointing to how it is used in Scotland, as well as the Premier League.
