Big improvements to region’s travel links

Central Somerset Gazette

|

July 10, 2025

MAJOR plans to improve transport links across the South West have been announced.

The Government confirmed on Tuesday that two brand new railway stations will be developed at Cullompton and Wellington, reconnecting these towns to the rail network between Exeter and Taunton for the first time in decades.

The project, aimed at unlocking new jobs and housing opportunities, is part of a broader £92 billion transport investment strategy. And it comes as the Government has announced the investment required to reopen the Portishead railway for passengers, which last ran 60 years ago.
