RUNS DRY UP FOR AMMAN

NEWPORT regained the winning thread and moved back to the top of the South Wales Premier Cricket League when they beat Ammanford by eight wickets.

Ammanford were 6-2 after five overs, a rather less than positive start after scoring in excess of 600 runs during the last two league matches.

Josef Davies and Jac Kenchington avoided total humiliation by putting on 71 for the 7th wicket.

Both looked extremely comfortable at the crease until Kenchington was caught and bowled by Ilyas for 29.

Davies (49) then had his off stump cartwheeled out of the ground by the return of Saeed, who had already removed four of the top order in his earlier spell.

There was little further resistance from Ammanford and they were all out for 94 in the 26th over.

Pace bowler Saeed ended with figures of 7 for 27.

Despite losing two wickets, Newport made short work of overtaking the meagre Ammanford total in 16 overs.

Harry Friend looked in complete control for his unbeaten 30, and Campbell Macmillan gave a hint of his destructive capability with an unbeaten 40.

On Saturday Ammanford welcome Cardiff to the Park.

Afiq Afridi scored 46 and Luke O'Connor 43 as the Llanelli side reached 170-7 in their 40 overs.
