Maxwell 'The Goat' Ndou's BMX journey inspires a nation

FROM riding goats and old bicycles in the rural village of Tshithuthuni to completing a gruelling 1 741km journey from Burgersfort to Cape Town on a BMX, Maxwell 'The Goat' Ndou has proven that no dream is too wild, and no distance too far, when driven by passion and perseverance.

The spirited cyclist was honoured on May 18, during Tshithuthuni Day, where his arrival brought the village near Tshidongolowe in the Thengwe-Mutale area to a standstill.

Crowds gathered at Tshithuthuni Chief's kraal, celebrating with ululations, traditional dances like tshigombela and songs from the local worship team. It was a homecoming fit for a hero.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Ndou said: "I used to ride goats and an old bicycle. When I told my parents I wanted to be a well-known cyclist, they laughed and said it was dangerous.
