The World Health Organization (WHO) observes World Hypertension Day every year on May 17. On this occasion, several hospitals, health centers, and educational institutions in the city organized awareness programs on Friday. Free health check-up camps, health exhibitions, and seminars on stress management were conducted to educate the public about high blood pressure (BP).
A Growing Global Concern
Globally, nearly 1.3 billion people suffer from high blood pressure. In India, one in three adults is affected, but 30% of them are unaware of their condition. If left untreated, hypertension can lead to serious complications like heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure, warn medical experts.
