Disciplinary hearing of suspended DG Mashabane will not be public

JUSTICE and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has confirmed that the disciplinary proceedings against Director-General Doctor Mashabane will be held behind closed doors, citing employer, employee confidentiality.

Mashabane’ suspension along with Deputy Director-General responsible for ICT, Jabu Hlatshwayo, was made public on August 26 after the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System revealed it would not commence as scheduled on September 1.

The delay was attributed to infrastructure procurement issues faced by the Justice Department that have had significant implications for the inquiry’s timeline.

This was despite Kubayi’s ministry instructing departmental officials to work closely with the commission to ensure that all administrative and logistical arrangements were in place.
