Smash-and-grab hotspots identified in Elsies River

Residents in Elsies River have raised alarms over a surge in smash-and-grab incidents, urging motorists to exercise caution. Fight Against Crime SA (FACSA) recently highlighted the Norwood traffic lights at Fransie van Zijl Road as a hotspot, where a group of six youths have been spotted lurking behind trees and walls, targeting unsuspecting motorists.

FACSA said they are targeting vehicles with open windows, with children allegedly helping by alerting the group about approaching vehicles before they reach the traffic lights.

ANC branch secretary in the Elsies River area, Patrick Wence, said the problem is far more serious, with the community having identified several smash-and-grab hotspots in the area.
