Town's cushions aiming to cut 'excessive speeding'
Cambridge News
|September 22, 2025
NEW speed cushions are set to be installed along a street in St Neots in order to try and cut “excessive speeds”.
-
The plans divided views with some people arguing that the speed humps would make the road safer, whereas others branded the project a “waste of money” and claimed speed cameras would be more effective.
Cambridgeshire County Council is planning to install nine speed cushions along Crosshall Road in St Neots.
The authority said the plans had been put forward to address concerns about “excessive vehicle speeds” on the road.
The county council added that the speed cushions were a narrower type of speed hump that would allow larger vehicles to “straddle” the hump, creating less noise.
Double yellow lines are also due to be painted along parts of Crosshall Road to the north of the St Neots Road roundabout, at a number of junctions to improve visibility by preventing people from parking there. A consultation was held by the county council to gather views on the plans, with 10 objections being lodged and 13 comments of support made.
