Paytm, 5 Others Down Over 50% From Offer Price
People who invested ₹1,00,000 in an initial public offering (IPO) five years ago now find it is worth ₹50,000, or in the worst case, just ₹3,085. That has been the fate of some IPOs since 2021.
Hype, overvaluation, weak business models, unrealistic growth projections, regulatory shocks (Paytm and Star Health), and investor disinterest after listing were among the reasons that IPOs failed to enthuse markets, according to analysts. Of the 280 IPOs that have debuted in the market since 2021, as many as 15 are trading more than 50 per cent below their issue prices. One in every four IPOs issued since 2021 is trading at over 10 per cent discount to its issue price, according to Business Standard's analysis of data from stock exchanges.
