THE Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has cleared the proposed acquisition by DoubleDragon Corp. of shares in MerryMart Consumer Corp., ruling that the transaction is unlikely to substantially lessen competition in relevant markets.

- BY BLESS AUBREY OGERIO

In a decision issued ahead of the mandated review period for Phase 1, the PCC’s Mergers and Acquisitions Office evaluated the deal’s potential impact on competition in the markets for leasing commercial spaces and warehouse facilities to grocery and convenience stores in areas where DoubleDragon’s subsidiaries operate.

DoubleDragon is a diversified real estate developer with businesses spanning retail complexes, office spaces, industrial facilities, and hospitality ventures.

Among its subsidiaries are CityMall Commercial Centers, which operate malls across the country, and CentralHub Industrial Centers, which run warehouse complexes in the Philippines.
