MORE than 180 Filipinos in Lebanon have asked to be repatriated as Israeli military operations escalate in the south.

- By Malou Talosig-Bartolome

The strikes, now carried out with drones and precision missiles, mark a shift from the indiscriminate bombings seen at the start of the conflict.

The Philippine Embassy reported that 167 Filipino workers and 14 overseas Filipinos with families have registered for voluntary repatriation.

Many have already fled southern Lebanon, moving north after military warnings.

With 14,000 Filipinos currently living in Lebanon, the scale of potential displacement is significant.

The Department of Foreign Affairs had earlier placed Lebanon under the Alert Level status, which means Filipinos are strongly urged to voluntarily evacuate while commercial options remain available.
