Tribute to Gresley on 'iconic' engines

STEAM locomotives designed by Sir Nigel Gresley will carry commemorative headboards this summer to mark the 150th anniversary of the legendary engineer's birth.
The Gresley Society has announced that on June 19, surviving and new-build Gresley locomotives in operation or on public display will be fitted with 'Gresley 150 Anniversary' headboards.
The tribute coincides with the anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley, one of Britain's most celebrated locomotive engineers and former chief mechanical engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway.
Organisers say the headboards have been designed in the elegant prewar LNER style, reflecting the golden age of steam travel and the famous named express trains of the era.
