CLAIRE SAYS ATTACK OF TENDONITIS WON'T STOP HER RUNNING 50 MARATHONS IN AS MANY WEEKS

- By EVA MILLETT

A RUNNER from Staffordshire insists she will complete her challenge of tackling 50 marathons in 50 weeks despite sustaining an injury that has pushed her final race back.

Claire Calladine, from Hoar Cross, has completed 43 marathons so far as part of her epic fundraiser in tribute to her dad Sean McDonnell, who died last year.

Her chosen charities are Dementia UK, after her dad was diagnosed with the condition, and Rueben's Retreat a charity based in the Peak District where the families of children with complex medical issues can spend time together.

After turning 50-years-old in October, the biggest challenge Claire has faced on her journey was during her 42nd marathon on October 12, when she suffered tendonitis in her left hip inflammation that caused nerve pain down her leg. “I knew I'd got a niggle right before I ran, and then doing the marathon made it much worse,” Claire said.

“It’s been so painful, I originally thought I'd take a few weeks off because I've got time to, now I've had to move my final marathon from December 6 to December 20.”
