A PROMISING start, but one in which they failed to score, fell away to become an embarrassing afternoon for Burton Albion, as Plymouth Argyle cruised to an all-too-easy 4-0 win.

Brewers must hope it gets no worse after big Argyle defeat

Kyran Lofthouse tries to make progress despite the close attention of two Plymouth defenders.

The Brewers were short of ideas once they were two goals down and a damning statistic is that they have not now scored at home in League One since the opening day of the season.

Attacks repeatedly broke down through a poor pass, the defending, so good away to Huddersfield Town the previous week, was shaky and, at the moment, Albion look like a team in trouble.

They had better hope this is as bad as it gets but we have had too many moments like that in recent seasons.

Following last week's hard-earned goalless draw away to Huddersfield, the Brewers named an unchanged starting lineup, with Kegs Chauke still missing from the squad.

A good run by Law McCabe threatened danger from Plymouth in the third minute and Brad Ibrahim had a shot blocked before the Brewers broke and Charlie Webster was sent clear down the left in the third minute, being fouled from behind to earn Ibrahim a booking.

From Webster's free kick, Kyran Lofthouse hit the post with a close-range effort before Mathias Ross scrambled the ball off the line.

Lofthouse then won a corner on the right and Webster, tricking his way into the box, won one on the left in the 10th minute as Burton continued an urgent start.

Little had been seen of Plymouth going forward but after a long throw from Brendan Wiredu in the 18th minute, they had their first corner, on the left, which was cleared without danger.
