Banksy art saved from scrapheap set to sell for £400k

ORIGINAL WORKS BY STREET ARTIST GO UP FOR AUCTION

THREE original works by Banksy could fetch more than £400,000 when they go under the hammer at a South Derbyshire auction house.

The important works, which includes two pieces that were saved from destruction, will be sold as part of Etwall-based Hansons Auctioneers' 20th Century, Modern Art & Design Auction on June 13.

DJ on a Cloud (1999), a rare early piece by the elusive street artist, was rescued from being thrown out of a shop in Bath while another, Two Rats with Saw (2003), was similarly spared from the scrap heap.

They are joined by Family Target (2003), a powerful spray paint on canvas work showing Banksy's signature themes of family, violence and social critique, in the sale.

All three pieces boast exceptional exhibition history, having featured in major global displays from Rome and Palermo to New York's Bowery and Broadway between 2019 and 2023.
