COUNCILLORS APPROVE SCHEME TO INCREASE WOODLAND WITHIN FOREST
A 25-year plan to increase woodland coverage in South Derbyshire has been given the go-ahead.
Derbyshire County Council's cabinet has approved plans to increase woodland within the Heartwood Community Forest area.
It covers around 289 square miles to the east and south of Derbyshire including parts of Etwall, Repton, Hilton and Mebourne.
The council is aiming to plant 121 hectares of trees within the community forest area before March 2026, with 80 hectares already in the pipeline and the remaining 41 hectares expected to be secured and added to the pipeline ahead of the planting season.
To date, they have planted 47,000 trees at locations ranging from a private golf club to own countryside sites.
