‘Shocking’ Surge in animal neglect cases

THE RSPCA has warned animals are starving behind closed doors after revealing a 10 per cent rise in neglect reports in Bristol over the last year.

The charity received 422 reports about neglected animals in the city in the first 10 months of this year, compared to 385 in the same period last year.

Simon Osborne, RSPCA superintendent, said: “Animals are facing shocking levels of neglect right now—they are often starving behind closed doors and being left without the treatment they urgently need.

“The truth is, times are desperately tough and innocent animals are tragically the ones paying the ultimate price.”

Across England and Wales, the emergency line received 73,294 reports of neglect up to the end of October, a 30 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
