Premier Comb’n Davis bags three more as Old Sodbury see off Boco

OLD Sodbury and their goal machine Charlie Davis are going to take some stopping if their form over the early weeks of their Division One campaign is anything to go by.

- Simon PARKINSON

Sodbury had experienced a challenging couple of years in the league following their 2022-23 arrival from third position in the Bristol and District League Senior Division, finishing the following season a steady ninth in the Combination’s second tier before winding up second from bottom with only two wins and nine points 12 months on.

Their output this time around, then, has been nothing short of a revelation. Old Sodbury, with Bedminster Down their guests next up this Saturday (2pm), have won all three of their league games to top the fledgling table, the latest a 3-1 away victory over AEK Boco Reserves - Aidan Fowles notched for them - courtesy of a hat-trick by prolific marksman Davis.

Davis struck five times in the 13-2 opening-afternoon dismantling of Cribbs A, was on target with a single in the followup 5-0 romp over Hanham Athletic Reserves, bagged a treble in the exciting 5-4 GFA Senior Amateur Cup victory at Wessex Wanderers, then registered again in Sodbury’s 4-2 away success over Cribbs A, this time in the League Cup.

AFC Mangotsfield are going well, too, ahead of Saturday's away day with Hambrook & Brimsham United.
