A RAPIST who climbed through a window to attack a sleeping woman has had his sentence reduced after appeal judges ruled he had not planned the attack in advance.

Antanas Jancevskis was jailed for 15 years at Leicester Crown Court last year, but the Court of Appeal has now quashed that sentence after finding the original judge had mischaracterised the offence.

Jancevskis, of Castle Street in Boston, Lincolnshire, had met the victim at a barbecue in the Glenfield Road area of Leicester in April 2022, before entering her flat uninvited through a window while she slept.

When the victim awoke on a sofa and asked him to stop, Jancevskis placed his hands over her mouth and when she said she could not breathe, he told her: "Then you shut up."

During the attack, the victim attempted to call police and repeatedly pleaded with Jancevskis to stop, but he continued.
