Famed architect whose roots fired a stellar career

Renowned architect Sir Terry Farrell, who died at the weekend aged 87, took inspiration from his time living in Fylde for his stellar career.

Sir Terry was an honorary member of the LSA Civic Society and wrote a foreword for the book the Society published in 2003, "The Listed Buildings of Lytham St Annes', in which he recalled his fondness for the area.

Born in Cheshire, he lived with his family in Ashley Road, St Annes.

While he was a student university, he did a study of Lytham as an example of a well planned town. A Civic Society spokesperson recalled he also did a study of chairs, including one from Lytham Hall.
