Town's fireworks display is axed after 'abusive' reaction to charges

A POPULAR Midland firework display has been axed with organisers blaming an “abusive” reaction to controversial new charges.

Tamworth’s annual fireworks display has fro years been staged in the town centre Castle Grounds.

But last month Tamworth Borough Council announced the display, which it described as a “beloved tradition”, would move to Statfold Country Park four miles away.

The council also announced plans to impose admission charges on the previously-free bash, saying residents had “consistently told the authority to reduce spending on events”.
