NEW measures to tackle high levels of air pollution across the West Midlands are set to be implemented.

Air pollution is said to cause around 2,300 early deaths every year in the West Midlands as well as contributing to serious health issues.

Last year, 90 sensors were placed across the region to measure microscopic atmospheric particles (PM2.5 levels) from wood burners, tyres, building sites and factories.

These can exacerbate long-term health conditions, including asthma, coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer.
