Police evaluation of banned Israeli fans is 'ongoing'

WEST Midlands Chief Constable Craig Guildford has said the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters from attending Villa Park next month is an "ongoing" assessment.

Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group (SAG) - the body responsible for issuing safety certificates for matches - informed Aston Villa that no travelling fans would be permitted at the match against the Israeli team on November 6.

West Midlands Police, backing SAG's decision, said it had classified the match as “high risk”.

Mr Guildford, speaking to the Birmingham Mail at the force’s Lloyd House HQ, said a “multidimensional threat assessment” had been carried out. And a threat assessment, based on intelligence, would “continue”.
