Ayuub Abdi, who died after falling from a window at a Handsworth HMO in September 2023

A POLICE officer who tasered a suspected knifeman as he fell from a window said his ‘world came crashing down’ when he saw the man lying on the ground, jurors at an inquest heard.

‘Family man’ Ayuub Abdi, 34, died in hospital from serious injuries after falling from the third-floor bedroom of an HMO in Handsworth on September 6, 2023.

PC Ryan Trowsdale, the West Midlands Police officer who deployed the Taser, gave evidence on Wednesday, , on the third day of Mr Abdi’s inquest, which opened on Monday.

He described being in “shock” and “disbelief” when Mr Abdi fell from the “significant” height.

“Tt felt like your whole world was crashing around you,” said the police constable when asked how he felt seeing Mr Abdi plunge to the ground. “My chest felt like it had dropped, he added.

PC Trowsdale was responding to a “high-risk” emergency incident at the Lansdowne Road property where Mr Abdi lived.
