ASTON Villa's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League remain intact after beating Bournemouth 1-0 on the south coast on Saturday night.

Mings' top record hits right note as Villa still on course

Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game deep into first-half added time as he turned in Morgan Rogers' cross from the right wing.

Watkins' finish came moments after Marco Asensio hit the post and Boubacar Kamara was denied by Kepa Arrizabalaga at close range.

Jacob Ramsey was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 80th minute, but Bournemouth didn't look like scoring an equaliser until the final minute of injury time, when Emi Martinez made a crucial save before Matty Cash blocked Daniel Jebbison's header off the line.

Here are the talking points from the win.

Mings' remarkable unbeaten record

Tyrone Mings made his 14th Premier League appearance of the season at the weekend.

Villa are unbeaten in all of those games.

It's a staggering record, considering what Mings has come back from having suffered a devastating ACL injury on the opening weekend of last season.

Unlucky not to have started any of the previous three games, Mings once again proved why he remains such an integral member of this squad at the Vitality Stadium.
