VICTIM 'LUCKY' AFTER FAILED BID TO GET SHARPER BLADE

- CARL JACKSON News Reporter

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl has been found guilty of wounding with intent having been cleared of attempted murder after stabbing a fellow female pupil in the neck.

She attacked her victim, who was the same age, in the lobby of their school with a pocket knife before another student split them up.

It was alleged the defendant had been subjected to bullying and homophobic abuse for being in a relationship with another girl.

The girl, who is too young to be identified, will be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court at a later date.

The deputy headteacher of the school said that, immediately after the attack, the defendant, now 14, “slouched in a chair, not bothered about the situation”.

The staff member described her “smirking and laughing” while sitting next to her in an assembly which followed, pointing out at that stage she was unaware she had used a knife on the victim.
