Dismay as plan for new special school is axed

COUNCIL MISSES OUT ON FUNDING

THE leader of Solihull Council has said she is "disappointed" plans for a new 150-place special school will now have to be scrapped.

The authority has missed out on crucial funding for the proposed school as the government is instead spending £3bn nationally to create new specialist places in mainstream schools.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported last year the Department of Education (DofE) announced the Midlands would be seeing four new special education needs schools open with Solihull one of the places selected after a successful application.

Then, earlier this year, it was revealed the authority's selected location for the school was Sans Souci Training Centre in Tamworth Lane, Shirley, currently used as a small training centre.
