ONE of Birmingham's most popular cultural exports is being celebrated in a new exhibition in the city centre - and the author was there himself to reveal why his most famous character was not a Brummie.

Lee Child: Creating Reacher, gives fans of the bestselling writer a chance to explore his personal archive, with rare handwritten drafts, private photos, book covers and fan mail.

The exhibition was launched by the man himself yesterday after it was installed along the frontage of the former John Lewis store in Grand Central.

The Birmingham-raised author, 71, signed books and met fans during the special homecoming.

He is best known for his Jack Reacher books which were later picked up for a Hollywood franchise, with the character played by Tom Cruise.
