BAFTA honour for new film set in Birmingham

TO FLY OR FLOAT TAKES BRUM BACK TO 1979'S WINTER OF DISCONTENT

A NEW film set in 1970s Birmingham is to be submitted for BAFTA consideration.

Olivia Maiden’s To Fly or Float explores childhood grief, Jewish identity, and family bonds during the Winter of Discontent in the late 1970s.

The short drama, which was filmed around Birmingham, will now be shown at festivals and developed into a feature-length version.

Olivia, from Cirencester, was awarded a grant from the Pears Short Film Fund. Run by UK Jewish Film, the fund gives two annual grants to short films on British-Jewish themes.

Winners are shown at the UK Jewish Film Festival and put forward for BAFTA eligibility.
