Salween pollution again under review
A second round of water and sediment sampling in the Salween River has been conducted after residents raised fears of toxic contamination along the Thai-Myanmar border.
Worasak Panthong, Mae Sariang district chief, yesterday said that over the past week, reports of chemical contamination in the Salween River have caused widespread public concern, particularly among riverside communities and environmental observers nationwide.
The Pollution Control Department has tasked Regional Environment Office 1 with collecting both water and sediment samples.
Samples prepared last weekend were sent to the department on Monday.
Preliminary water test results are expected by Nov 21.
