Officials cite duty to guard border area

Thailand maintains that its border operations against Cambodian forces prioritise civilian protection and the need to safeguard sovereignty, authorities said yesterday.

“All operations are conducted in strict compliance with international humanitarian law, under the principles of military necessity, proportionality, and distinction between military facilities and civilians,” said ACM Prapas Sornchaidee, director of the Joint Press Centre on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation.

“Thailand maintains a firm policy of not targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure under any circumstances,” ACM Prapas said.
