PM stokes debate on charter

Parties should make stance clear, he says

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has urged parties to clearly state their positions on constitutional amendments.

He reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party would not support any move to alter Chapters 1 and 2 of the 2017 Constitution, which he said must remain protected under all circumstances.

Speaking during a visit to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market in Taling Chan district for election campaigning yesterday, Mr Anutin, who also serves as interior minister and Bhumjaithai leader, said his party's stance had been consistent and unequivocal.

A national referendum on constitutional change will be held to coincide with the next general election on Feb 8. Chapter 1 defines Thailand as a single, indivisible kingdom with a democratic regime and establishes the King as head of state, while Chapter 2 outlines royal prerogatives.
