Opposition parties strike deal to back Anutin as PM

The Bhumjaithai Party and People’s Party (PP) yesterday signed a formal agreement as part of a deal to back Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul as Thailand’s next prime minister.

The agreement was cosigned by Mr Anutin and Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the PP and opposition chief. In a statement, they said conditions were set as part of PP’s search for a new person to become the country’s 32nd prime minister.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra was removed from office by the Constitutional Court last week in an ethics case linked to the leaked phone conversation between her and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen. The court ruling also resulted in the dismissal of her cabinet.
