New sub-committees 'to boost readiness'

The government has established five subcommittees tasked with improving the country's disaster preparedness in the wake of the floods which struck the country's southern provinces, Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanno announced yesterday.

The goal is to develop an integrated system covering forecasting, early warning, and relief mechanisms that can be applied nationwide, as well as to rebuild public confidence in the government, he said.

The first — the preparedness subcommittee — will be led by the secretary-general of the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR). It will focus on forecasting, flood risk analysis, and early warning systems.
