The Ministry of Defence took out an unusual full-page advertisement in the country’s largest newspaper, touting in a lengthy essay its expanded remit in non-defence programmes, including free meal initiatives, village cooperatives, and a plan to create 500 new battalions over five years to support healthcare and agriculture.
