DNP investigates illegal sanctuary roads

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has pledged a full investigation into alleged illegal road construction in protected forest areas in Mae Hong Son.
The agency warned that legal action will be taken against those found responsible, as well as against anyone spreading false allegations.
DNP director-general Attapol Charoenchansa told a press briefing yesterday that the issue first surfaced in December when authorities discovered 6.6 kilometres of newly cut road inside Mae Yuam Fang Khwa Wildlife Sanctuary in Mae La Noi district. Officers seized 329 logs of protected timber and filed a police complaint.
