Court gives Paetongtarn more time to file defence

The Constitutional Court will extend the deadline for suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to submit her defence against a petitioned dismissal over a leaked phone call between her and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen on June 15.
The court voted five to four to approve a new request by Ms Paetongtarn, suspended from her duties as prime minister pending the ruling.
Her petition on Tuesday for a second extension says she required more time to gather evidence and witness statements to support her case and ensure the written defence is complete. She asked for another 15 days. Ms Paetongtarn now has until Aug 4 to finish submitting her defence or the court will assume she intends not to submit it.
