Cambodia won't help clearing mines: Thai navy

>>Cambodia has yet to respond to a Thai proposal that it help clear landmines along the Chanthaburi-Trat border or address cross-border scam networks, leaving both issues for the next meeting between their armed forces.

RAdm Paraj Ratanajaipan, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Navy, said the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) yesterday was attended by VAdm Apichart Sapprasert, commander of the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, and Maj Gen Uy Heang, commander of Cambodia's Third Military Region, together with members of border committees from both countries.

The meeting in Trat was convened to agree on measures to ensure peace, stability and the welfare of border communities through peaceful means, he said.

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) but the Cambodians offered no help in clearing the mines along the border which the Thais say they had left hidden there to maim or kill their troops.
