Calls mount for structural reform amid tariff woes

»»»Prominent figures from the government, industry, and academia gathered to mark the 28th anniversary of the National Press Council in Bangkok last week, using the occasion to call for urgent structural reforms, deregulation and a cohesive national vision to help Thailand navigate an increasingly volatile global landscape.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat, a keynote speaker at the event, addressed the looming threat of increased tariffs from the United States proposed by President Donald Trump.

He said he was representing Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, who is on a mission to Washington to negotiate with US authorities regarding the issue.

Mr Julapun stressed the need for a collective response, involving not just the Ministry of Finance, but also the Ministries of Commerce and Agriculture and Cooperatives, alongside key private sector actors such as the Federation of Thai Industries and the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
