A DERBYSHIRE council is set to move a homeless traveller family to its own depot, opposite a tip, cemetery, allotments and close to sewage works.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is going to allocate its own depot in Watery Lane, Ashbourne, as a temporary traveller site for a family currently living on the Clifton Road car park.

As it stands, the council does not have a usable temporary or permanent traveller site in the Dales on which it can direct the family to move to from their current illegal home.

Due to this, the council cannot move the family elsewhere from the site they have used since early November.

If approved, the temporary site would sit directly across from largely vacant Derbyshire County Council land next to its current tip which has previously been marketed for sale, and then withdrawn when the district council enquired about its use.

The traveller family had stayed there from November 2024 to November 2025 before moving to Clifton Road.
