Temporary accommodation in Hart to be given a revamp

TEMPORARY accommodation in Hart will be given a revamp as a refurbishment project is approved by the district council.

The 23 flats will be remodelled to create a more living space for those vulnerable living at Heathlands Court in Cricket Hill Lane, Yateley.

The court has oneand two-bedroom flats made for homeless families. It's owned by the council but leased to VIVID Housing on a long-term agreement that began in 1999.

The council said the current building is poorly designed and does not meet its temporary accommodation needs, creating an “urgent” need to upgrade and remodel the accommodation.

For example, some units are quite small, and the bedrooms have an open-plan arrangement that combines them with the living room, limiting the number of families that can stay there.

In January 2024, a request was made for £80,000 to engage specialists in exploring options for a major renovation project. Out of the approved amount, £40,000 was used to hire consultants to explore various options for the building.

The proposal estimated that the cost of large-scale remodelling would be between £5.4 million and £6.2 million.
