THE “heart of Camberley” is set to be transformed with proposals to demolish an empty department store and replace it with up to 550 homes.

- By JOSEPH BICKLE

The prominent town centre site, once home to Allders, will be regenerated with works set to start in the summer.

Surrey Heath Borough Council's executive approved a proposal to demolish the vacant buildings at 125 to 137 London Road (A30) at its meeting on May 6. The council has said demolition should be completed in 12 months.

This comes after Camberley received nearly £1.5million from HM Government in September 2024 to regenerate the area through the Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF2) as part of the One Public Estate Programme. Surrey Heath has said this funding support a new residential development on the London Road site, which has been earmarked as part of the council's Local Plan for the construction of 550 homes.
